"PETER AND THE WOLF" was performed by the Lompoc Pops Orchestra Monday January 29, 2024 at the Lompoc Civic Auditorium much to the delight and enthustiastic response of the Lompoc Unified School District sixth graders and staff.
Almost 900 students took part in enjoying the Pops rendition of this all-time favorite by Sergei Prokofiev. Written in 1936, it's a symphonic tale for children as the narrator tells a children's story while the orchestra illustrates it by playing different instruments to represent each character in the story. “Peter and the Wolf” is Prokofiev's most frequently performed work and was even adapted by Walt Disney in cartoon fashion in the 1950's.
This Lompoc Pops Orchestra Community Outreach event represented seven years of planning and fund-raising, and Conductor & Artistic Director Dr. Brian Alhadeff is tremendously grateful to Julia Anderson, band director at Lompoc High School, for coordinating the event.
Included in appreciation, the Pops wishes to acknowledge LUSD Superintendent Dr. Clara Finneran for championing this unique student opportunity. Finally, roses go to the following donors who actually made it happen:
